To make your construction project easily manageable, we have created a construction schedule where you can easily view and manage your project's schedule, make data changes, or add new entries.
The Construction Schedule has 2 viewing modes:
- Default BuilderPad Schedule
- Gantt chart
You can change the mode by simply clicking on those buttons:
Any changes you make in this schedule will also be reflected in the progress tracker.
We will discuss these two elements in more detail in separate articles.
The Default BuilderPad Schedule is a schedule template that we carefully crafted after interviewing dozens of builders, to use as a baseline schedule.
When you create a new project, it will ask you if you would like to apply our default schedule, or a template you have created.
Once applying the template, it will display inside your project, showing all of the project phases and schedule items - using the project creation date as the start date.
Here is a quick reference to what each of the columns indicate.
Phase - Shows the phase names, also can show phase items.
Start - Shows start date. You can change each phase item's start date by clicking on it. Phase start date shows the earliest date of its items.
End - Shows end date. You can change each phase item's end date by clicking on it. Phase end date shows the latest date of its items.
Work days - Shows the working days count from start day to end day (is not including holidays).
Completion % - Shows the phase items' percentage that has been completed. Phase percentage is the total average of its phase items.
The table listing has search and filters if you are focusing on a specific phase or item on the schedule.
To add a new phase, simply click on the "Add New" button. This action will open a modal where you can enter the phase name and choose the color of the dot associated with it.
All the phases will be displayed in the listing table, visually separated by their respective dot colors and names.
Under each phase, you will find its corresponding phase items. If you wish to hide these items, simply click on the button provided for that purpose.
You can clone the default template and make customizations to fit your workflow, or create/edit/clone a template you have created yourself. This can be done from Account Settings >> Default Settings >> Schedule Template.
The Gantt Chart provides an alternative method for managing your construction schedule. You can switch from List View to Gantt View by simply clicking on the buttons:
The Gantt view offers a more visual approach for viewing and editing your schedule. It is particularly useful for making bulk changes to the schedule.
You have the flexibility to move the start date to any desired future date, and we automatically adjust the end date to maintain the same number of workdays.
Here are a few important points to consider:
- It is not possible to move the end date to a date prior to the start date. Therefore, you need to first adjust the start date, and the end date will automatically be adjusted accordingly.
- You cannot drag the start or end date of a schedule item to a non-working day, which is indicated by a darker grey background.
- To edit, add new items, mark them as complete, or delete them, you can click on the toggles shown in the picture. Hovering your mouse over these toggles will display the task name, start date, and end date.
Please note these guidelines while working with the Gantt view.
When you select "Edit," a new modal will open specifically for editing the schedule item.
Within the Gantt chart view, you will find buttons that allow you to extend or collapse phase items in the phase listing. Additionally, the Gantt chart offers zoom in/out options and a full-screen mode located on the right side.
The Gantt view provides the functionality to establish relationships between your schedule items.
To link two items together, you can hover over the end of one item, then click on the circle icon and drag it to the desired destination item. Double tab on the link line to undo it.
By extending a specific item, any linked contingent items will automatically be adjusted and pushed accordingly.
You can also filter the phases by date or add a new one.
